Gemstone Gua Sha’s are Here in The Flesh and for The Flush… the Lymphatic Flush!
An essential yet minimal tool to add to anyone’s self care ritual with a really long history and extensive background in Chinese Medicine. These small tools have actually been around for thousands of years –dating back to the 7th Century in China– and our Western culture is just now starting to jump on the ‘scrapping’ trend.
A simple way to think of Gua Sha is Facial Acupuncture. This ritual of scraping the face with a gemstone brings energy back to an area. They help to increase circulation, lymph drainage, de-puffing the eyes, decreasing inflammation, helping with fine lines and wrinkles, et cetera.
Some gua shas are made of plastic, steel, gemstones and most traditionally, jade. Our Amethyst Gemstone Gua Shas are fragile - they are stone - but they’re also so beautiful. We and most everyone begin with a clean face and use oil when they scrape. Our gemstone Gua Sha’s are a bit heavier so you don’t have to apply as much force when you’re using it - but be careful, using oil with the stones can get slippery.
Our stones are small, compact and their shapes (without ridges and edges) are designed for large surface areas and make it easy to use on your face and neck.
Go gentle to avoid bruising as you begin scraping your face and watch videos online for tips and tricks - we linked one of our favourites. The biggest trick we can give you from our own practice over time is to use the stone NOT at 90 degrees on your skin, but at a low angle of about 30 degrees. This helps reduce skin damage and you can really feel the stone working the muscles. Also, go slow and add oil.
